So often we connect the goodness of God to our circumstances..when all is going well in life. But here is what 2015 is teaching me...
God is as good in the midst of a lengthy sickness as He is when I am finally well.
God is good when I discover that I've been dropped from insurance due to a clerical error. And He is good when after several week of wondering and waiting, I learn the error was finally fixed.
God is good in the midst of experiencing hurt and rejection from friends. God is good when I am sitting around a dinner table enjoying good food and good fellowship with friends.
God is good when my husband (who rarely gets sick) is sick and I come to the realization how much he brings to my life because for a season it is gone. And God is good when he is well again and things get back to "normal."
God is good in the midst of medical testing and waiting for the conclusion of those tests.
God is good when I am just so tired I don't think I can take another step. God is good when I'm full of energy and feel like I can overcome the world.
God is good when I'm struggling to learn a new program and new aspect to my job. God is good when I'm struggling to keep up with the work and feel overwhelmed. God is good when my to do list gets checked off and a big project is complete.
God is good in the midst of aching for children who have grown and moved away. God is good in the midst of enjoying those times when we are together.
God is good when I am missing my family who all live so far away. God is good in the middle of a family reunion.
God is good in the frustration and heart ache of struggling to understand and care for a close family member with dementia. God is good in the midst of a road that has a certain difficult and painful future.
God is good in the midst of a cold bleary winter. God is good when it is finally warm and I can break out my flip flops!
God is good when said bleary winter keeps interfering with my plans. God is good when those plans finally come to be.
God is good in the midst of anxiety and fear of an uncertain future. God is good when the sun is shining and the future looks hopeful.
God is good. He is good when things go well. He is good when they don't. Because God's goodness is not dependent on my circumstances. God's goodness depends on...well it depends on God.
"You are good and what you do is good. Teach me your decrees." Psalm 119:68
"Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the {woman} who puts {her} trust in Him." Psalm 34:8
May we learn to see the goodness of God in all of life's circumstances!
