This is a crazy time of year! The to-do list gets longer instead of shorter. The pressure of what I must do and have to have mounts as the desire to build the ever-elusive nostalgic Christmas looms in front of me. Can you relate?
How did we get here? How have we ended up so far away from what this time of year is meant to be? Advent and the culmination on Christmas Day is meant to be a time of looking back and looking forward. Looking back and remembering the faithfulness of God in bringing about the long-awaited Messiah just as He had promised. And looking forward to the promised return of this very same Messiah.
In the midst of our culture of ceaseless busyness, we need to intentionally stop ourselves and breathe and create space in each day to daily remember the promises of God. It will not just happen naturally. If we are not purposeful, we will be swept away in the riptide that is American Christmas and will miss the quiet voice of God whispering to us out of the pages of Scripture, “Come to Me all who weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Throughout the month of December, let’s take some time to meditate on what God has promised through His Word about His Messiah. You can follow the daily posts as I walk through Scripture beginning in Genesis with just a seed of a promise all the way to Revelation. May we be encouraged to hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful!!!
