Meditation: Psalm 48:10; Isaiah 45:21; Psalm 71:19; Romans 1:18; 2:5
In Isaiah 45:21 God says, “There is no other god besides me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none besides me.” God is a righteous God - He is always good. He is always right. He is always perfect, pure and without sin. He is infinitely and unchangingly righteous in both His being and in His actions. And through His law the righteous God, reveals to unrighteous people what righteousness looks like. So when we look at the moral Law of God, we are looking at the character and nature of a righteous God. No wonder the Psalmist proclaimed in worship - “Oh how I love your law!” To love God’s law is to love the righteous God who gave the law!
But when we meditate on God’s infinite and unchanging righteousness, we must come to grips with God’s infinite and unchanging wrath. His wrath is His hatred of all unrighteousness. If God’s righteousness is all that is good and pure and true then all unrighteousness is evil, defiled and false and is in its very essence anti-God. He could not truly be righteous and not also be wrathful for the essence of righteousness is to hate all that is evil.
Those who know and love God and see Him as beautiful, good, true & righteous “will celebrate His abundant goodness and joyfully sing of His righteousness! (Psalm 145:7)
Therefore, let us give thanks and celebrate God’s abundant goodness - let us sing of His righteousness!
